The laws for slavery started in 1787 when it was brought to Jamestown. One of the laws was the black code it was pasted restricting all blacks. The U.S. constitution states that any person that is not free is counted as three-fifths of a individual for the purposes of determining congressional. One of the other articles says that no one shall be held in slavery; slavery and the slave-trade in all their forms shall be prohibited.
Some of the laws were very brutal and they made the slaves work really hard. Soon most of the slaves tried to running away, but that just made them make more laws and
make them work harder.
The laws of slavery
To start off we have the laws of slavery, so I am going to tell you a few of the laws that the whites gave the slaves. One of the laws was the 13th Amendment section 1 says that neither slavery or involuntary servitude but as punishment for crime where of party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the united states, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Section 2 says that congress has power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. So what it is basically saying is that this Amendment outlaws slavery.
Another law is the 14th Amendment section 1 says that all people born in the United States and are in the jurisdiction are there for citizens of the United States. Section 2 of Amendment 14 says that if anyone is denied the right to vote then it reduces the members in the House of Representatives. Later on civil right laws and the 24th Amendment guaranteed the right for African Americans to vote.
One of the other laws was the black slave code is a law that prohibits blacks from doing everything. It stops them from voting and getting a fare trial in court. That is why the made the 13th Amendment so that everyone has the right to a fare and speedy trial. When the black slave code was made Andrew Johnson was the president.
One more of the laws were the Dred Scott Decision. This was about a man and his will to be free. Dred Scott was a slave and he wanted to be free so he brought his trial to court. The trial felt like it lasted for a life time. In the end Dred Scott and his wife Harriet were freed.
These were just some of the few laws that the whites made the slaves follow. It was not far to the African Americans, but it is a good think that slavery ended. So that every person can be equal no matter what race you are.
